Plant medicine can open profound experiences and shifts in consciousness. But the journey itself is only one part of the process. What happens before, during and after an experience can have a significant impact on how we understand and live what has been opened.

In this teaching, I explore what plant medicine integration actually is, why it is important, and what the integration process can look like in practice. This comes from my own experience and from my work with clients navigating the many layers that can emerge through plant medicine work.

In this video, we explore:

What is integration: Integration is more than reflecting on what happened during a journey. It is an

intentional process of working with the experience across multiple layers of ourselves: the body and physical experience, the mind and intellect, the heart and soul, and our emotions and energetic state.

Preparing for the experience: Integration begins before the medicine. We look at intention versus expectation, doing your own research, self-inquiry, understanding your psyche and what may be present beneath the surface, working with fears and doubts, and building trust in yourself and the process.

What happens after: The post-journey period can bring clarity, insight, emotion, uncertainty, or material that takes time to understand. We explore the importance of interpretation and contemplation, working with shadow and unconscious material, and allowing space for what may arise through trauma, ancestral or collective material, mystical experiences, teachings, relationships and changes in how you see your life.

Why integration matters: A powerful experience does not automatically create lasting change. Integration is where an experience can begin to move into everyday reality. It can affect our worldview, relationships, choices, sense of self and the way we understand our lives.

And sometimes, integration means learning to stay with the discomfort and the unknown rather than immediately needing to make sense of everything.

Ultimately, integration is about creating enough space to understand what has happened, discern what is meaningful, and allow the experience to become something you can actually live.
